Steve "Greenie" Greenwell, outstanding performer, arranger, and music educator, began his musical training at the ripe old age of five in the form of piano lessons, and expanded his keyboard abilities by transitioning to playing organ in the fifth grade. It was also at this time that Steve's mother took him to a Boots Randolph concert. He developed a love for playing the saxophone as a result of this activity, and in fifth grade began saxophone in the school band. At the fifth grade school talent show, Steve performed "Yakety Sax" on tenor saxophone. Later, as a junior high school student, he was asked by his piano teacher to play for her wedding, which was Steve's first professional gig. Greenwell continued to grow musically through high school and college, and played in the rock band Blue Holiday, as well as many local productions and activities. In addition to his jazz, rock, country, pop and swing performing and arranging repertoire, Steve's formal education includes earning a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Evansville in 1979. Recent classical performing opportunities include playing with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and performing as the Principal Alto Saxophonist with the Evansville Symphonic Band. Steve currently is the Instrumental Music Director at Evansville Day School and teaches in his private music studio with nearly fifty students. Greenwell performs with, and arranges for, Little Moe and the Atomic Two-Tones, as well as his own group, The Steve Greenwell Trio. Many cities outside of the Evansville area have been the beneficiaries of Greenwell's musical performing talents, including playing stints in Chicago, San Francisco, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Birmingham, and the Hawaiian Islands. Steve has played for a multitude of international performers in a variety of settings - Wayne Newton, Sammy Davis, Jr., Englebert Humperdinc, Tom Jones, The Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Marie Osmond, Patti Austin, The Lettermen, Debbie Boone, Charo, Patti Page, Al Martino, Brenda Lee, Vicki Carr, The Temptations, Jack Jones, just to name a few - the list goes on. Other local performing opportunities have included touring Broadway shows (A Chorus Line and Grand Hotel), Ice Capades, Holiday on Ice, The Evansville Jazz Band, Executive Inn House and Show Bands, and Evansville Civic Theatre. So when you have the opportunity to enjoy Little Moe and the Atomic Two-Tones, get up and swing, or sit back, relax, and enjoy the dynamic and outstanding saxophone playing of Steve Greenwell.
